K L Photographers is owned and run by Steve Rivoira & Nikki Hirst who took over from the Kay's in September 2014. Steve worked for Dennis & Delia Kay for 25 years prior to taking on the small business. Nikki has worked with KL since requesting her work experience with them in her last year at school. Nikki created her own business in 2005, allowing her own photography to grow. Nikki Pix Photography still runs alongside KL today and Nikki has a well-established client list.

We would like to give a brief background of K L Photographers to help visitors to our site feel a certain knowledge of this established business.

Dennis Kay started his career as a trainee photographer with "R B and E D Richards of York" in Bootham after leaving school. He attended Kitson College of Photography in Leeds. Working for Richards of York before and after a break for National Service spent largely in Singapore. In 1963 he set up K L Photographers with his wife Delia and silent partner Lealman. They opened a shop and studio on Boroughbridge Road, expanding by offering professional printing services from their laboratory at Clifton Moor. They also had a shop at York District Hospital for a number of years.
K L Photographers have been recording images in the nicest possible way for over fifty years and will continue as a local independent retailer for the next fifty years with the support of its loyal customer base. Although K L Photographers have moved premises in that time and now distinctly smaller we have not changed our customer-based ethos. We aim to give good customer service and quality. All our production work is undertaken in house; customers find this very comforting when bringing in precious family history.
